Handicraft export augments amidst economic turmoil
The export of handicrafts from the tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal has grown in the first seven months of the current fiscal (2008-09), by climbing from Rs 1.52 billion to Rs 1.84 billion, to garner a mind boggling growth of 21.24 percent. The most commendable part of this growth story, is that, this growth has come about at a time, when most of the exporting countries across the globe are witnessing a contraction in their shipments since the last few months. The growth in handicraft exports has mainly been helped by an increase in shipments of traditional and major products like woolen goods, up 16.27 percent, Pashmina shawls, up 27.52 percent and silver jewellery again up by 11.51 percent
