Duty-free apparel

The US Trade Act 2005, or Trade Relief Assistance for Developing Economies Act, would give duty-free access to the US market for 3,677 products, including apparel, from a bloc of 14 LDC's.
Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Samoa, Solomon Islands, East Timor, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Yemen, Kiribati and Laos are the LDC's that would benefit from Act, if passed.
Similar to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), the Trade Act 2005 would remain effective until 2014 should it get the necessary support from US lawmakers.
It would also stipulate rules of origin for goods from the 14 LDC's being eligible for duty-free entry into the US market, so long as limits do not exceed 11 per cent of total US apparel imports.
